Alicia Sacramone Wins Gold on Vault During Olympic Trials

Former Brown student-athlete and Olympic hopeful Alicia Sacramone (Winchester, MA) competed at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pa., over the weekend. Sacramone placed first on the vault, and earned fifth on both the beam and floor. At the conclusion of the competition, Sacramone, and nine other individuals, were invited to the 2008 Women's Olympic Selection Camp, July 16-20 at the Women's National Team Training Center in Huntsville, Texas. There, the rest of the squad will be named to the U.S. Olympic Team pending approval from the U.S. Olympic Committee. Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin automatically qualified for the Selection Camp by placing first and second, respectively, at Trials. (MORE)

Bears' Asst. Coach Sacramone Wins Three Medals at Visa Championships
Brown University rising junior and volunteer assistant gymnastics coach Alicia Sacramone (Winchester, MA) won three medals at the 2008 Visa Championships at Agganis Arena at Boston University on Saturday. Sacramone won gold in the vault, silver in the floor exercise, and bronze on the balance beam, medaling in all three events she competed in. As a result of her performance, Sacramone was named to the 2008-09 U.S. Senior National Team and will compete at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials later this month. (MORE)

Brown Gymnasts Earn All-America Honors at USAG Collegiate Nationals
Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA), Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX) and Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) competed in the preliminary round of the USAG Collegiate Nationals hosted by Centenary College on Thursday afternoon. Sobuta and Binkley each earned spots as alternates in event finals on Saturday, and earned USAG Collegiate National All-American honors. (MORE)
